Virtual then At Camp Twilight Camp

The Circle Ten "at home" camp experience is now online as of 5/15/2020. Time to hand-pick your Down on the Farm FUN! Link

So Twilight Camp is going virtual. Scouts can work on things at home. Once the at home portion is done the Scout can go online to order a patch in recognition and then the Scout, siblings, and a parent may sign up for one of 10 possible "At Camp" days at either Camp James Ray or Camp Wisdom where there will be archery and BBs, swimming, crafts, and more.

Service Opportunity Handing Out Shrubberies, Saturday, May 23rd

The Crepe Myrtle Trails of McKinney is looking for 15-20 Scouts to help distribute one-gallon crepe myrtles to McKinney ISD fifth graders. Normally, the distribution would have been at the schools the Friday before Mother's Day, but of course, that wasn't possible this year.

Instead, the giveaway will be May 23 from 8 a.m. to noon in the Cottonwood Creek Baptist Church parking lot. Families will remain in their cars while Scouts and Crepe Myrtle Trails of McKinney board members hand off the containers through the windows.

Please bring a pair of work gloves such as gardening gloves to wear. Crepe Myrtle Trails will provide face masks, or you may bring your own. They'll also provide water bottles. Social distancing will be maintained throughout the event.

Crepe Myrtle Trails of McKinney has given away the one-gallon crepe myrtles for 16 years to every McKinney ISD fifth grader. This is a great way for Scouts to earn community service hours. These could count toward conservation service hours.

Please contact Bram Franklin at bramfranklin.gmail.com if you're interested in helping or need additional information. Mr. Franklin is an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 444 in Plano and a board member of Crepe Myrtle Trails of McKinney.

Council Annual Rec. Banquet, Thur., June 4

We have now moved the council banquet to Thursday, June 4th. It will be at the same time at the same location.

In order to stay within the COVID-19 and current State and Local guidelines we are postponing the Council Banquet to Thursday, June 4th. Please help spread the word that everyone will remain registered, along with their invited guests, until they notify me and Michael Prachar they wish to cancel their reservation. If they cannot attend the new date of June 4th, they should e-mail Mike Prachar at michael.prachar@scouting.org and copy me to notify us that they will no longer be able to attend on the new date of Thursday, June 4th 2020.

We apologize to all those who find that they cannot join us on our new date. With all the continuing changes at the government level, finding available dates for Circle Ten and the Plano Event Center, this has been a challenging decision. This was the best date we could all agree on. Those who notify us they need to cancel by Monday, May 11th will receive a full refund. After May 11th the normal council cancellation fee will be used. We need everyone’s renewed commitment so folks should check their calendar and determine availability, as well as their invited guests’, now. An email will go out today to all registrants of the banquet, but only to the contact person who made the reservation. We will depend on everyone to tell invited guests of the new date and to confirm that they will attend.

All District and Council Events Cancelled through March 31st

Dear Scouting Families of the Circle Ten Council,

Today Governor Abbott declared a state of disaster for all counties in Texas. With this declaration, Circle Ten Council leadership has made the following decisions:

There will be no council or district events through March 31st.

If you are signed up for an event, you should be receiving additional information regarding your reservation.

We advise all unit meetings be suspended through March 31st.

As this is an ever-evolving situation, we will reevaluate at that time for further recommendations.

How can you keep Scouting?

  • Work on advancements, merit badges (consider the Public Health Merit Badge), Cub Scout Adventures, or the Emergency Preparedness and the Cyber Chip Awards. Take some time to work through the requirements that can be completed at home. For merit badges, work with your merit badge counselor via email, Facetime, etc. (remember Youth Protection training – no one-on-one communication between youth and adult).

  • Do a good turn daily. Look for ways to contribute to your community, while staying safe.

  • Be sure to stay social while being secluded. Reach out to the families in your unit. Stay connected, even if it’s just to say hi via a phone call or Facetime.

  • As a unit leader, now is a good time to take online trainings, renew your Youth Protection Training.

  • Unit committees can begin planning your next program year. What activities do you want to schedule?

As Scouts and Scouters, it is our duty to Be Prepared. We also must not panic while making the best decisions possible for our Scouting programs and its members. Our council leadership is committed to being diligent with regular communications as this situation evolves. As this is a constantly evolving situation, please regularly monitor our standard means of communication (Facebook, email and the Hub) for updates. If you have any further questions or concerns, please contact Kevin Patterson, Deputy Scout Executive.

On behalf of

Gary Scott | Council Commissioner, Joe Stallard | Council President, Sam Thompson | Scout Executive/CEO

District Transitional Troop Needs Assessment

The Lone Star District is currently seeking your input to determine if there is a need for a Transitional Troop in our area. Scouts BSA is committed to serving all youth regardless of physical or mental capabilities or impairments. A Transitional Troop would provide additional support to Scouts who may not be ready to move directly into a traditional Scouting unit. Examples of Scouts who may benefit from a Transitional Troop include 1) Scouts crossing over from Cub Scouts who may not be ready to move directly into a traditional unit, and 2) Scouts with disabilities who may not be ready to move directly into a traditional unit.

Take the survey here.
