Wilderness First Aid Certification, January 28-30

Are you prepared to address illness or traumatic injury in the backcountry? All four of the BSA high-adventure bases require at least one person per trek (two per trek at Philmont Scout Ranch) to be current in WFA through one of the BSA’s approved providers.


Troop 909 and First Christian Church of McKinney are sponsoring a Wilderness First Aid Course January 28-30. This is the 16 hour ECSI course designed by Philmont and meets the requirements for all BSA - High Adventure Bases. It will be taught by BSA-certified instructor Mike Reisinger. Applicants must attend ALL WFA event dates to obtain certification.


WFA Certification Cost: $80. Includes course materials, snacks, and Saturday lunch. $50 deposit (nonrefundable) will hold your space. Send your check to Mike Reisinger: 18 Walnut Creek Pl, Richardson TX 75080.

Everyone must have COVID vaccination or negative test result within 3 days prior to event.


Minimum age is 14 by June 2022. 14 and 15 year olds will need to have an attending adult with them. Approval of the instructor is needed for all under 18.


Dress for the weather as there will be exercises outdoors at night - rain gear, head light, small daypack or fannypack.


CPR/AED certification is required to complete the Wilderness First Aid course. Two CPR courses are being offered the Tuesday and Thursday preceding the WFA course. CPR/AED course cost is $40.

Lone Star District Camporee April 8-10 @ Camp James Ray

Come join Lone Star District at Camp James Ray for our annual Camporee. This event is for all troops and crews. We'll have competitions, fun, and will culminate with a large campfire program, awards, and Order of the Arrow callout. We'll start check-in on Friday at 7 pm followed by a full day of activities on Saturday. Sunday there will be a Scout's own service as well. See you there!

Lone Star District IOLS April 5, 8-9 @ Camp James Ray

Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with Scoutmaster Specifics this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout Troops in order to be considered “trained”.


Cost: $25.00 per person online plus $10.00 cash per person payable at Orientation (to cover patrol meals)

Location: Camp James Ray (2026 Mill Creek Rd, Pottsboro, TX 75076)

Date: 6:00pm on Friday, April 8, 2022 – approx. 9:00pm on Saturday, April 9, 2022 (after the campfire)

Participants are welcome to camp Saturday night and leave Sunday morning.

IOLS Orientation is required.

Don’t forget to bring $10.00 cash to cover the cost of patrol meals.

You must bring to class a copy of Scout Medical Forms A & B along with a copy of your medical insurance card (both sides).
