BALOO and OWL Trainings, Saturday, March 25th 8 am

Have you taken BALOO or OWL training yet?  Well you should if you camp as a pack (BALOO) or as a Webelos Den (OWL).  Have we got some courses for you.

8 am – 1 pm March 25th at the LDS Pavilion, 1020 N Lake Forest Dr (by Boyd HS),  $10 early or $15 late 

Basic Cub Scout Adult Leader Outdoor OrientationNeeded by at least one or two persons from a pack for pack camping. Sign up for BALOO here.

District Crossover, March 12, 2017

Please set aside Sunday, March 12th at 3 pm for the District Crossover.  Brought to you by the Lone Star District Wicahpi Chapter of the Order of the Arrow.  All Webelos 2’s are invited to “Crossover”  in this group setting.  ALL scouts and scouters are invited to come out and watch for FREE.  It is $5 per Webelos to participate and they will each receive a totem made by the Order of the Arrow.  Important  things to remember are 1) be sure to sign up so the OA knows how many totems to make and 2)be sure if you have selected a unit, you have notified them as well.  Scouts are welcome to participate even if they have not chosen a unit yet.  There will be some great photo ops… so Bring your Cameras!  Sign up AND PAY ONLINE here by group or individually:


Be sure and sign up online by March 6th so we know you are coming and so we'll have enough totems.

Come and join us Thursday, March 2nd for our monthly first Thursday Round Table meetings.  The Cub Scout leaders meet to be given examples and to be inspired to have better den and pack meetings.  The Boy Scout leaders meet to get ideas for troop meetings and campouts. What we really need is to have you there.  All units should be represented to know what the district and council are and can do for you.  See you at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 7:30 pm; 2801 Eldorado Pkwy, McKinney, TX each first Thursday of the month.

There are also a couple of meetings before Round Table at 6:45 pm:
  • Camporee Planning Meeting - For youth especially as well as adults from every troop, team and crew to plan our upcoming Camporee on April 8th.  Every unit should be represented.
  • Twilight Camp Planning Meeting - For every pack to prepare for and plan our upcoming June Cub Scout Day Camp.  Every unit should be represented.
Don't forget that our Order of the Arrow Chapter meets the same night and time as Round Table.  This time they will be making the totems for crossover and will finalize crossover plans and begin planning for Camporee.  There may even be…..food!

Scouting For Food Collection, Saturday, February 11th

Does your Pack, Troop, Team, or Crew have your bags and route for Scouting for Food? Come and pick up your bags at Round Table on Thursday, February 2nd from our District Executive Tim Mason. Collection day is Saturday, February 11th. Units can start collecting in the morning but need to have it turned into the food pantry before 2 pm. When food is dropped off at the pantry the food will be counted. Each unit then needs to submit your results by 2 pm. Camp Card Kickoff, Thursday, February 9th


There will be a Council Camp Card Kickoff this year on Februrary 9th at 7:00PM that at least one person from each unit should attend. There are some changes to the camp cards this year that everyone should be made aware of.

Archery Classes every Tuesday from 6 to 7:30pm

Terry and Amy Witt, USA Archery Level III NTS Coaches, will be holding archery classes every Tuesday from 6:00pm to 7:30pm at Texas Archery Academy's McKinney Range. Each session will cost $10 with all equipment being provided by Texas Archery Academy. These archery classes are for scouters, scouts and their siblings 10 years of age and older. The main goals of these class is to teach beginning archers how to successfully participate in the sport of archery as a lifetime sport and to compete in various local Texas Field Archery Association (TFAA), Texas State Archery Association (TSAA), and Texas Archery Academy Indoor League (TAIL) archery tournaments. Our other goals will be how to choose your archery equipment (bow, arrows, quiver, etc..), how to maintain your archery equipment and to form a Boy Scout Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD) Team to participate in these tournaments. District Committee Training, January 24th

Calling all members of the District Committee including all Charter Organization Representatives (you are district committee members too). We are holding a District Committee Training Workshop on Tuesday, January 24th at 6:30 pm. Bring $3 each for Pizza and let us know you are coming by signing up below so we have enough then come and learn how the district committee is supposed to operate. It will be held at the LDS building we hold Round Table at; 2801 Eldorado Parkway in McKinney.

Registration is now available for the University of Scouting.  Come learn things you would love to add to your program.  The University of Scouting is a day of classes you get to pick that will help you do a better job in whatever position you hold.  It is held at SMU with lunch provided.  Set aside the day and register now.

District Eagle Recognition and Award Dinner, January 14th



Who: All Lone Star District Leaders and the Class of 2016 Eagles (2016 Eagles are free)
What: Join us for a Dinner as we give thanks to everyone that made the 2016 Scouting year count!
When: January 14, 2017

Cost: $15 per person if registered by January 9th. 2016 Eagles are free. After January 9th the price is $20.

Loss of our own

We extend our love and prayers to the Barber family who lost Greg and Tim of Troop 310 in Farmersville in a tragic accident New Years Day.  Greg was active on the District Advancement Committee sitting in on Eagle Boards of Review.  Tim was attending the Air Force Academy and received his Eagle in 2015.

Greg  (Spanky) and Tim's funeral will be held on Monday, January 9, 2017 at 11 am

Burial will be at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Award Nominations


Our annual awards dinner is just around the corner and we need to know who it is that makes your unit and our district SPECIAL!  It is time to nominate the Scouters in our district that do such a great job providing a quality program for the youth in our area.   Nobody knows who does a better job than you.  Please take a moment to nominate them.  The awards will be presented at the district dinner on January 14th.   The awards are:



   1 - The Unit Spark Plug Award (Every unit should submit one of these.)


   2 - The Unit or District Scouting Family Award


   3 - The Unit or District Rising Star Award


   4 - The District Silver Star Award


   5 - The District Award of Merit

Round Tables and Chapter Mtg, Thurs, January 5th

This week, on January 5th, is Round Table for Cub and Boy Scouts as well as the Order of the Arrow Chapter Meeting.  See everyone Thursday, January 5th at 7:30 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; 2801 Eldorado Parkway in McKinney.

Also, before Round Table there will be a 6:45 pm Twilight Camp Planning Meeting.  All Packs should be represented.  It will be in the east gym where Cub Scout Round Table is held.
