Archery

We are lucky in our district to have a family of world class and nationally ranked archery competitors and for us instructors, the Terry and Amy Witt family.  Here are some of the classes they have available.

Level 1 USA Archery is valid for teaching Archery, running a range, at Scouting events. 
 
The classes will take place at Texas Archery Academy in McKinney. 
 
Level 1 April 22 and May 6.   COST $100 (discount for registered Scouters BSA, GSA, AHG, TL $55) $35 deposit required to save your space.
Level 2 April 23 and May 7.   COST $150 $50 deposit required to hold your space.
 
Deposit is nonrefundable.
 
The cost includes materials and will include the sting making and arrow making needed for merit badge counselors.

USA Archery Level 1 Instructor Certification

The Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification Course provides graduates the necessary tools to maintain a high level of safety both on and off the archery range and ensures that minimum standards for archery instruction are consistently taught to provide for the safety and enjoyment of the participants, instructors and spectators. Level 1 Instructors are well prepared to teach beginner archery programs to people of all ages and abilities in a variety of both indoor and outdoor settings in the disciplines of target, field or 3-D archery. The Level 1 Instructor will learn about range safety, range setup, the steps of shooting, equipment and repair, programs and lesson plans.

Course Length:         8 hours (Dependent on class size)
Course Cost:             $100 (Discount for registered adults in a Scouting program BSA, GSA, AHG or Trail Life)
Certification Period: Three years from the date of course completion
Prerequisites:            Minimum age is 15*

All Level 1 Instructors who assist in a USA Archery Club are required to obtain a Range Pass.
 
USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Certification

The Level 2 Archery Instructor Certification Course includes the Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification Course and provides students with an introduction to the National Training System (NTS) Steps of Shooting for recurve and compound, equipment and accessory setup, athlete development and events as well as qualifies students to teach the Level 1 Archery Instructor Certification Course. Graduates of the Level 2 Archery Instructor Certification Course are well prepared to serve as the lead instructor for long-term archery programs such as Junior Olympic Archery Development (JOAD), Adult Archery Program and Collegiate Archery Program clubs, as well as the Explore Archery Program.
Course Length:         12-16 hours (Dependent on class size)
Course Cost:             $150
Certification Period: Three years from the date of course completion

·         Membership to USA Archery*, National Field Archery Association (NFAA) or Archery Shooters Association (ASA)
·         USA Archery Background Screening
·         SafeSport Training
