Oak Leaf Youth Training – September 24th to 26th

Troops, Teams, and Crews. How would you like to reinforce the training your scouts received at your unit’s Troop Leader Training? Lone Star District is hosting a youth led training for youth right here in our back yard at Camp James Ray. Send along your scouts to help them be the leaders they have been elected to be. It is for 12 and up and for those who are first class or higher. They need a recommendation from their Scout Master as well.

* Friday to Sunday, September 24th to 26th, 2010 from 7 pm to noon (Sunday optional) by Lone Star District at Camp James Ray, Pottsboro, TX; ($30 early or $40 late; includes meals). Sign up and get more information here.

We are still in need of youth to staff. Do you have some boys who have taken NYLT and have taken our Oakleaf Training before that would be good on our staff? Sign them up or have them sign up. Staffing will teach them more than attending ever would. Please let us know here.

Here is an achievement list for camp. Please review it individually for each scout to make sure they did everything. With the boys not coming every day and the cancellation on Wenesday everything wasn’t done by everyone. Also, perhaps you’ll find something we miss. Twilight Camp Achievements 2010

ADVENTURE BASE 100

Did you know that the Boy Scouts have a Transformer? It’s True! Really! It may not fight evil robots from another galaxy…but it is made up from a big rig. It is Adventure Base 100, and it is coming to Dallas! Adventure Base 100 is a 18 wheeler big rig that can transform into a scouting experience that can go anywhere. This year at Texas State Fair it will be on display, to let fairgoers experience a ropes course, a zipline, scout exhibitions, build their own pinewood derby cars for racing against everyone else at the fair, and a lot more. But we need YOUR help to make it work. We are looking for volunteers to welcome visitors, demonstrate scouting skills, and show off scouting talents at the demo stage. See this document explaining more about the jobs needed to be done.
